The Magwood on Books Podcast: Henrietta Rose-Innes Talks About Her New Novel, Green Lion

Green LionHenrietta Rose-Innes stopped by recently to talk about her latest novel, Green Lion.

Rose-Innes is the author of the novels Shark’s Egg, The Rock Alphabet and Nineveh, and the short story collection Homing. She was the recipient of the 2008 Caine Prize for African Writing and the 2007 African PEN Literary Award, and is currently completing a PhD in creative writing in the UK.

“In this book, I wanted to examine what I see around me, which is modern human beings’ strange love affair with other creatures, non-human creatures,” she says.

“It seems to me a poignant, sad contradiction that as we are losing species, particularly these iconic, big, beautiful animals that have always held such meaning for human beings, they are becoming more central to us, culturally.”
